NATIONAL
PRESIDENT'S SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarships are awarded to children of veterans who served
in the Armed Forces during the eligibility dates of The American
Legion. One $2,500 scholarship, one $2,000 scholarship, and one
$1,000 scholarship will be awarded in each Division. Fifteen outstanding
students will be awarded a total of $27,500 to further their higher
education. On the State level, Missouri offers two $500 Scholarships.
The applicant must complete (50) hours of community service during
his/her high school years to be eligible for one of these scholarships.
The application must be validated by the sponsoring Unit and Department.
SPIRIT
OF YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP FOR JUNIOR MEMBERS.
One Junior member in each Division will receive a scholarship valued
at $1,000 per year for four years (total $4,000). The applicant must have
held membership in the American Legion Auxiliary for the immediate past
three years, currently hold a 2000 membership card, and continue to maintain
her membership through the four-year scholarship period. The application
must be validated by the sponsoring Unit and Department.
PAST
PRESIDENTS PARLEY SCHOLARSHIP
A $1,000 scholarship shall be awarded annually to a high school graduate
who has chosen nursing as a vocation. $350 shall be awarded the first
year with the understanding that $350 shall be given for the second year
and $300 for the third year if the student is still in nurses training.
The applicant must be a resident of Missouri and a member of a veteran's
family. The application must be validated by the sponsoring Unit.
LELA
MURPHY SCHOLARSHIP
A $500 scholarship shall be awarded to a high school graduate with $250
at the beginning of the first semester and $250 at the beginning of the
second semester. The applicant must be a resident of Missouri and the
granddaughter or great-granddaughter of a living or deceased Auxiliary
member. The application must be validated by the sponsoring Unit.
